Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
HeatShield Chimney Sweep in Fort Lauderdale: What to Know First
We sweep and service HeatShield-lined chimneys throughout Fort Lauderdale, and most jobs are completed in a single visit. A standard HeatShield chimney sweep here runs between $189 and $329 depending on flue condition, creosote volume, and roof access. You’ll get the exact written price before any tool comes off the truck.
If you own a home with a HeatShield resurfacing system and need a sweep, an inspection, or both, call us at (754) 354-1451. Nathan Corliss and our Fort Lauderdale crew work on HeatShield systems year-round, and we’ll tell you straight what the chimney needs and what it does not.
How HeatShield Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- HeatShield Cerfractory Flue Sealant surface spalling. On Fort Lauderdale chimneys, we regularly see the Cerfractory coating begin to flake or spall at the smoke chamber throat after years of salt-air exposure and rapid temperature swings. This happens because the ceramic material expands and contracts at a different rate than the underlying masonry. Our fix is a camera inspection to map the spalled areas, then a targeted patch or full recoat depending on coverage loss.
- HeatShield Joint Repair System seam separation. The HeatShield joint repair system seals the gaps between clay flue tiles, but in older Fort Lauderdale homes with settled foundations (common east of US-1), those seams can reopen. We find this during Level 2 inspections and sweep around the separated joints carefully, then document whether the repair needs redoing before heavy burning season.
- Cracked original clay liner behind the HeatShield coating. HeatShield is a resurfacing system, not a structural replacement. If the original clay tile behind it cracks further after the coating went in, combustion gases can reach the masonry. During a sweep, our techs note any new cracking visible at the top or through the coating, then advise if the HeatShield repair needs to be redone or upgraded to a rigid liner.
- Creosote bonding to the Cerfractory surface. Cerfractory has a slightly porous surface that can hold creosote more stubbornly than a smooth stainless liner. In Fort Lauderdale’s humid months, that creosote absorbs moisture and becomes a tar-like layer that is harder to remove. We use rotary brushes and, where needed, a chemical creosote treatment specifically safe for ceramic coatings.
- Improper prior HeatShield application from another contractor. Not every HeatShield installation we see was done right. We have found coating applied too thin, preparation skipped, or the wrong product mixed. A sweep gives us the access to assess that work. If we find problems, we document everything with photos and give you options before recommending any rework.

Our HeatShield Chimney Sweep Process
- 1
Call or book. A live person answers at (754) 354-1451. We schedule a specific arrival window, not a four-hour guess.
- 2
On-site walkthrough. Our background-checked, uniformed technician arrives, walks the roof and fireplace with you, and confirms the scope before quoting the written price.
- 3
Camera inspection first. Before sweeping, we run a camera up the flue to document the HeatShield coating condition. You see the footage. If there is damage, we show it to you on the spot.
- 4
The sweep. We remove creosote and soot using brushes sized to your flue dimensions. For HeatShield systems, we use methods that protect the ceramic surface while lifting stubborn deposits.
- 5
Post-sweep verification. A second camera pass confirms the flue is clean and the HeatShield coating is intact. We note anything that needs watching.
- 6
Written report and guarantee. You get a written summary of what we found and what we did. If we repair anything, the repair carries our written guarantee, backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge.

AfterWhat HeatShield Chimney Sweep Costs in Fort Lauderdale
Most HeatShield chimney sweeps in Fort Lauderdale fall between $189 and $329. Here is the breakdown:
- Basic sweep with Level 1 inspection: $189 – $249. This covers open fireplaces with light to moderate creosote and easy roof access.
- Sweep with Level 2 camera inspection: $289 – $329. We recommend this if you have not had the HeatShield coating inspected in three or more years, or if you are buying or selling the home.
- Heavy creosote removal or glazed creosote treatment: Add $80 – $150 depending on severity and flue length.
- HeatShield patch repairs: $350 – $900 depending on spalled area size and flue height. We quote after the camera inspection, not before.
What moves the price is roof pitch, flue height, creosote condition, and whether the HeatShield coating needs patching. You’ll always have the written price before we start. Call (754) 354-1451 for a free estimate.
Why Fort Lauderdale Homeowners Call Ashby Chimney Fort Lauderdale for HeatShield Work
Say the price first, explain the work second, put it all in writing: that is the whole business model. Nathan Corliss built this company in 2002 around a simple promise: no surprises at the end of the job. Our techs know HeatShield systems because we work on them every week, not once a season. If a HeatShield repair is not the right call, we say so plainly and walk you through the alternative, whether that is a DuraFlex stainless liner or a Gelco repair product. We are an independent HeatShield service provider, which means we answer to you, not a manufacturer’s sales quota.
Every Ashby Chimney Fort Lauderdale job includes the Kingswell Guarantee: a written price before work begins, a written guarantee on completion, and a free second visit if a covered repair fails. If something is not done right, we make it right. Our phones are answered by a live person 24/7, so if you have a question about your HeatShield system on a Saturday afternoon, you will not get a form or a voicemail.
FAQs
No, proper sweeping does not void a HeatShield warranty. In fact, HeatShield requires regular maintenance to keep the system functioning correctly. We sweep with methods appropriate for ceramic coatings and document every job so you have a maintenance record if a warranty claim ever comes up.
Annually, same as any chimney. The Florida humidity can compound creosote buildup because moisture makes creosote more adhesive and harder to remove. If you burn regularly during the brief winter months, once a year is the floor, not the ceiling. Call (754) 354-1451 to schedule.
If the spalled or cracked area is small and localized, we can often patch it the same day using HeatShield-compatible materials. Larger failures need a separate visit to recoat properly. We will show you the camera footage and give you the written price for either path before you decide.
The camera inspection tells you. If the HeatShield coating is failing in more than about 20% of the flue surface, or if the underlying clay tiles are structurally compromised, a Stainless steel liner from DuraFlex is usually the better long-term answer. We do not recommend full replacement based on guesswork: you’ll see the footage yourself.
No. We are an independent HeatShield service provider. We use HeatShield-compatible materials and follow manufacturer installation guidelines, but we are not a HeatShield franchise or authorized dealer. If you want an honest read on whether the product is holding up, that independence works in your favor. Call (754) 354-1451 and we will give it to you straight.
